Potential Photoshop killer - Pixel
A ccording to the results of a survey conducted early this year by Novell, Adobe Photoshop tops users’ lists as the most critical application not available on Linux. While Adobe continues to only support Windows and Mac OS X with most of its products for its own, unknown reasons, alternatives are becoming increasingly popular with the…

Apocalypse 2.0
Ryan Stewart over at ZD Net chimes in on the tidal wave of “Web 2.0″ tech based sites, and the problems with compatibility that come with them. I love all these new applications, but the fact is that I am a tech-head, with all of the latest browsers, plugins, and technologies enabled… there are a number of popular sites out there (in Web 2.0 BETA! of course) that don’t like Grandma and Grandpa’s 10 year old Dell.
Facebook 2.0
I dipped my feet in the Facebook swamp pretty late, only setting up my profile a couple of weeks ago… however when I did, I found the portal to be rather boring. Facebook “2.0″ has launched, with a number of cool new features that make browsing the site a lot more interesting. Techcrunch visited the Facebook offices for a tour of the new features, check that out here. If you have a Facebook profile and haven’t seen it yet, go now!

Announcing the Birth of Chumby

Favorite hardware hacker Bunnie Huang gave this year’s FOO Campers a sneak peek of the latest in cool gadgets: the chumby. The chumby is a low-cost, wifi-enabled information delivery device that’s so appealing you’ll want to keep one close.
Chumby’s team of hardware hackers wanted this device to be fun and open, the anti-iPod. While iPod has a clean look and expensive molded plastic, it’s not very accessible. The Chumby is meant to be personalized. If you’re crafty, you can redesign it with a seam ripper; if you’re a hacker, it’s all open source inside.
One you’ve plugged in your chumby, it connects to your home network via wifi. Select “Trust the chumby” and it will autodiscover. Once you’ve registered online and picked from a selection of free widgets, the chumby displays a Flash stream of whatever you’ve configured - weather, news feeds, alarm clock, movies, pictures, stock tickers, etc.
Damn that sounds cool! Where can I pre-order one of these?

Cool map of Starbucks & McDonalds taking over the world
This pair of maps show the global presence of Starbucks coffee shops and McDonald’s restaurants. When examined graphically, both companies act as global hubs that connect some of the world’s poorest, most remote countries with some of the wealthiest. Very cool yet freaky at the same time!
Writely, brought to you by Google
via ZD Blogs:
After Google purchased Writely, an online word processor along the same lines as their spreadsheet application, the door closed on anybody wanting an account but not having an invitation. According to the Writely website, signups were suspended until the service moved to Google’s servers.
Google just keeps pumping out these awesome tools! Analytics came last week, now Writely. Sure, they bought this program, but everything Google touches seems to turn to gold… just wish I had bought some of that stock.
