Carl Morland, Henry Hallam and Robert Fryers attached the tiny camera to a helium balloon, which flew to nearly four times the height of Everest. Throughout the flight it took images which show the curvature of the earth. The flight lasted about three hours, producing more than 800 images.
From Engadget: 26-year old Claudia Mitchell has become the fourth person and first woman to get outfitted with a bionic arm (well, besides Lindsay Wagner), with which she’s able to perform functions simply by thinking about them. The arm was designed by researchers at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago — who are part of a larger project funded by DARPA — and works by detecting the movement’s of Mitchell’s chest muscle, which has been rewired to the nerves that once served her left arm.
Researchers have achieved a breakthrough in nanotechnology: paper made from long titanium oxide nanowires. The material can be bent, trimmed, and folded like normal paper, but it’s chemically inert and can withstand temperatures up to 700 Celsius (almost 1300 degrees Fahrenheit).
Human beings, as we know them, developed from earlier species of animals: true or false? This simple question is splitting America apart, with a growing proportion thinking that we did not descend from an ancestral ape.
Residents are wondering if an animal found dead over the weekend may be the mysterious creature that has mauled dogs, frightened residents and been the subject of local legend for half a generation. The animal was found near power lines along Route 4 on Saturday, apparently struck by a car while chasing a cat.
Researchers over at Microsoft have developed TouchLight, a touch screen technology that combines off-the-shelf components to create a unique and interactive affair. Several different types of cameras are positioned behind a holographic projection material screen recording your movement. Approaching the screen, you then see a projection of yourself or whatever you have touching the screen. This opens up several different types of applications, not least of which is the normal touch screen activities.
This is really one of those stories where seeing is believing, so be sure check out the fruits of Redomnd’s research and start thinking about ways to abuse it like we do with a Xerox machine. – Nicholas Deleon

“The launch of the Mars Phoenix Lander is just a year away. The spacecraft will be aiming for the martian north pole, and if it lands successfully it will dig in snow and ice in one of the few places on Mars where scientists think life could be preserved.”
